It’s Sámi National day today. It’s celebrated in memory of the first Sámi conference that was held in 1917. The Sámi are the original inhabitants of the north of Norway, Sweden and Finland, Sápmi as the country is originally called. The Sámi are traditionally a nomadic people that travelled with the reindeer herds in the north. You should really look up Sámi culture on the internet, or in real life. I just wanted to acknowledge the day and the importance of Sámi. I’m not Sámi but since my family owned reindeer I feel close to Sámi people since we share common interest and I love the north of Sweden above the Arctic Circle. This is a photo I took in Björkliden close to the Norwegian border a little bit after midsummer when there’s daylight all through the night. And the lake in the photo is Torneträsk which is the origin of the river, Torneå River, that I grew up next to. So, Happy Sámi National Day!
