Enjoying the snow and sun after a long winter
Just a short check in after I’ve been M.I.A. again. Or, more correctly, I’ve been enjoying these last days of snow and the easter holidays. You really have to because the sun is out and the snow is diseappering fast. It’s still cold in the nights so the snow freezes and creates a nice floor for skiing and other activities outdoors. But. During the days, when the sun is out, it’s really warm, or at least after a long winter of -20 degrees celsius, +7 degrees is warm and the snow melts away.
I took this photo of snow mobiles while skiing on the Kalix river close to where the river meets the sea, outside Billerud Korsnäs paper mill. And. That’s another thing I’ve been thinking about, nowadays the public image of the north of Sweden, Norrbotten or as some people prefer to call it Swedish Lapland (which is not the correct term for most parts), is all about nature and forests and all that. But. Norrbotten has a lot of natural resources that are processed here and have been for a long time. Along the coastline of the Bay of Bothnia there are paper and steel mills, which are very scenic since there’s still so much nature surrounding them. And, this is the history and the foundation of Norrbotten. We have natural resources like trees, steel and water which are transported along the rivers, railways and roads to the coast where they are processed and distributed. It’s the back bone of the region. So just to present a more proper image of the region I choose to show images of paper mills too. And, it’s a pretty one.

Don’t blame ya! We’re going to try our hand at subsistence farming this spring, see how much we need to grow to spend less money.
Good luck with the farming 👍 my family was basically self sufficient thanks to our farming, and the rein deers, while I was growing up. Even though the season for farming is short up here. But it’s intense thanks to 24 hours of sun in the summer. And, home grown food tastes better too!

Thanks! And so do I. But the resources have to be used in an environmental friendly way. But. That’s how people of the north of Sweden are making their living. And the industrial sector is growing right now. A lot of companies are expanding in the north and there are a lot of employment opportunities like in Boden, and Skellefteå where Northvolt are opening up a huge battery factory.
Exactly ☺️☺️. I meant that it was good to know that the area is rich and abundant in natural splendor, not so much that it was being impacted by manufacturing or industry lol.
But that in of itself may not be too bad; there has to be a delicate balance. Or, alternatives altogether need to be developed that take the long-term state of the environment into consideration, knowing the effects that industrial operations can have on the natural landscape and in turn creating the opportunity for potentially disastrous consequences to occur the more that it becomes a trend 👍👍😄.

Thanks 🙏 I love this part of the world. Which I guess is natural since I was made for this kind of climate even if I complain about the long winters and all the snow shoveling I do. And, spring winter is the reward for the cold winter months 🙌 so beautiful right now. And. I’ll post more about the north of Sweden. Out taking photos and road tripping right now.
