from World Meteorological Organization

Yes, just a short note. At least that’s what I think now when I’m starting to write this post. But a photo of mine that I submitted to a contest this fall has been noticed and gotten an honourable mention from World Meteorological Organization and will be featured in their calendar for next year. And, that makes me happy!

“We are delighted to inform you that your photo, As long as there’s fish in the Sea, received an Honourable Mention in the 2023 WMO Calendar and will be featured as such in the print version.

It was an outstanding photo, both in terms of photographic and technical skill as well as its meteorological interest and popularity on social media. It will be featured in the printed 2023 WMO Calendar on the Honourable Mentions page. It will also be showcased on our social media channels and featured in our Honourable Mentions album on Flickr.

WMO and its UN partners regularly use photographs from the calendar competition to illustrate news stories and web features. The photos are often featured in communications activities by the UN Secretary-General’s team to illustrate the impacts of climate change and extreme weather.”

Got the news a couple of days ago but decided to take a bit of a rest this weekend trying to get back to myself and here I am, sharing the news. It’s funny, I somehow get lost in trying to fix things like horrible internet connection and to manage how much electricity my house is using up. With extremely high prices and a long cold winter coming up here in the north of Sweden, it’s really important to do those things. But, I get so caught up in those things I forget the good things that are happening to me. And, having my photos recognised in contests are so much bigger to me than poor internet connection. And, that the photo will be published and have a chance to be used and published by The UN, that’s a really big thing. It’s finally sinking in now when I have time to actually read the email and reflect on what it means. Also, it’s a very important subject to me. The climate change and how it affects us and the whole world, because now, there’s fewer fish in the sea. Hopefully, there will be more fish there soonish.

And just now, when I stepped out on my porch to have a cigarette, the clouds scattered and I could see the almost full moon above me and somehow it makes it worth all the troubles I’m going through at the moment. Because I love living in a place where it’s dark enough to see the stars and the moon.

    • Thanks! It was a beautiful morning and I’ve got many more photos. Actually, many mornings are that beautiful. Planned this photo session a couple of days before and walked around taking photos with my iPhone. 😺

  1. Congratulations. a great reflection.

Those are important life-things to take not of indeed especially when you are trying to make it on your own with high cost of living issues and weather-related dangers.

Yes that’s is a big thing; congratulations, you deserved it 😘😘. I am very very happy for you and the positive impact your accomplishment will have outside of the contest ✊✊🤩

I love that line; so true and very well said 🤟🥰😍

    • The moon and the stars were even more beautiful the following night 🙌 and yes, the cost of living is going up extremely fast, and with the winter and all electricity that’s needed to keep yourself warm and keep the house from being damaged from the cold is really stressful. And let’s just say … there’s been sort of a mix up of cables from my property. Think that’s taken care of tho. Hopefully the internet connection gets fixed now, yesterday I had between 5 and 20 mbit/s which is soooo slow. Apparently it’s getting fixed now. Because my worst-case-scenario is just closing up the house completely for the winter, and then heading somewhere warmer, which I really don’t want to do since I enjoy the winter. Oh, I let out some of my worries 🙊 but it’s having an effect on me and my work so 🤞and thanks for stopping by and commenting! Let’s hope the UN needs a photo of fishermen and their boats.

      • It’s lovely that you got to see it for a second time; I am even happier to hear about the following night 😂💕💕. The cost of living is an issue that’s affecting almost every developed society since when it comes to money, every one always wants more so things just keep going up and up and up 👎😅. Good to hear that the mixed cable issue is probably rectified although you did mention that’s what you think. I would recommend that you double check just to be sure as it’s a safety issue and you definitely don’t want to take chances especially with the harsh cold conditions setting in.

Hahaha I understand your frustration about the poor internet performance mines tops out at about 11Mbs (download) and about 5 MDs (upload) as the normal everyday frequency so you could imagine how intrigued I am to hear that between 5 and 20 mb is pretty slow in your neck of the woods. I too hope that it improves and will not be an inconvenience to you going forward. Yes if the U.N needs photo of the fishermen, look no further, the sea girl is ahead of the game 🙌🙌😂

You are welcome sweetheart 🤩💙💙. I love to hear your views and I hope that you can catch a break from the concerns that are on your mind eventually 🙏🙏🙂🥰💞

      • Thanks! I’m actually in Stockholm now and got 5G, so last time I checked it was 134 mbit/s down so … fast! And I’m enjoying the city I used to live in for so long. And just by chance I ran into one of my best friends just when I was going out 🙌 so nice and out of the blue!

    • Thank you so much! It was the most beautiful morning, and just coming there after longing to go for so long, but was not possible due to the pandemic, made it even more special.

Wow 5G at 134 is super fast LOL. I had no idea that it was that fast; to go from 134 Mbit/s all the way down to 5 – 20 MBs, really puts into perspective just how much it had significantly slowed down 😅😅. It’s great that you are enjoying Stockholm, which is actually also the capital of Sweden too, and it’s lovely that you ran into an old friend — I hope you two had fun ✌️👍☺️💯

    • Yes, had fun! Ran into another friend today that I’ve known since I was 7. And being here really puts things into perspective of what I left and what I have now. But it’s good being here. Going to another friends birthday party tomorrow.

      • Hahaha, you all go way back and it’s a blessing to still be able to call someone you knew for that long a friend 👍👍😄.

Yes I bet you being back in Stockholm really puts into perspective where you’ve been and how far you’ve come and how much you’ve grown 🙏🙏😇🙂. You’ve been to many places but Stockholm is what made you 🤟💙😁🌹.

Enjoy the party with your friend when that time comes and be safe 🎊🎉🥳😆. To have a birthday party in the month of the Christmas season has got to be fun 😂😂.

      • Oh, it was a great party! Met many people I know. And have been spending time with friends. So nice and so needed. Yes, I became an adult in Stockholm but it’s the north of Sweden that made me 😉

That was truly awesome and I hope that you’d be able to do it again sometime 🙌😄🥳🎉🎉. Who knows, maybe that sometime will be on your birthday 🤩🤩💙💙

Roger that — the entire north of Sweden made you; you don’t want to be bias 🤭😂. In fact, SWEDEN made you 🙌🤣

      • Thanks, my birthday is too far away, it’s in June … have to visit Stockholm before that. I’m not sure about Sweden made me, you see, I’m from a place very close to Sweden so if anything has made me it’s Tornedalen. I’m very biased 😉

You are welcome 🥰. Trust me, time files, we’ll be in June 2023 faster than you think 🤣🤣😉. It’s already “6 hours ago” since you texted me your lovely thoughts 🤩🤩. Time is not slowing down it’s getting faster! haha

“I’m not sure about Sweden made me, you see, I’m from a place very close to Sweden so if anything has made me it’s Tornedalen. I’m very biased 😉”

Ohhh I see 🤔; the mystery deepens 😮😆. Tornedalen is the land that summoned the majestic scandinavian lady of the sea 👍😮😁💞

    • Exactly! And now a place very close to Tornedalen is making her freeze to death. Almost at least. It’s very windy outside and -15 degrees C, and 16 degrees inside. So working is a bit difficult to say the least 😹❄️🥶

      • 😂 awww, it sounds super frosty 🥶⛄❄. Wow -15 degrees overall and 16 degrees inside? 😲😲. I froze looking at my screen just reading about it 😹.

I have no idea how your able to cope Helena 😅. I hope that you are able to adequately protect yourself against frostbite and hypothermia 💯😄🤗

      • I’ll try and protect myself. Now it’s -20 outside and 17 inside, max, had to move out from my office room partly because of that. There’s something wrong with the heating, and my windows. I’ll try to solve it since it’s not an ideal situation to work under. But now at least the internet seems to be working 🤞

Wow, that is very cold 😱🥶❄. I have not experienced conditions anywhere near that cold, so I am in awe at those numbers 😅😵😄. I agree that it’s not an ideal situation; go ahead and try your best 🤞😘☺️.

I am glad that the internet is still on. Atleast with the internet you can keep in touch and keep up-to-date weather wise and generally, which is also important 👍😄😄

    • I know! The internet is good 🙏 and it’s 16,3 degrees Celsius in my living room. So thinking of moving my workspace to the only room where the temperature is reasonable, my bedroom. Compact living in a house of 80 square meters 😹 it’s just that the south of Sweden gets support with their electricity bills from the government but the north, which produces a lot of electricity and have many natural resources that have supported the Swedish economy for centuries, are not getting any support. And now our price for electricity is as high as it’s in the south. It’s a very strange model. And most of this is due to the fact that Russia is trying to invade the Ukraine, where they have no electricity. So, compared to that, I’ve got very small problems 😉 You have to keep things in perspective, I guess.

      • Whoa 😅😵🥶❄; the temperature is fluctuation and it’s as if the frosty weather has turned most of your home into a freezer 😂😂🤭. I undertand the difficulties with a house that is 80 square meters and having to deal with that kind of weather, but it’s very good that you atleast have a roof over your head and it seems like you able to takecare of yourself very well which I am ahppy about and admire 💞💞😇😙. I see your point and it is well made 👍👌🙂; the electricity/power structure in Sweden is paciliar lol. But, just because be there are problems in Ukraine doesn’t mean there aren’t lots of other problems, in fact the problems with Russia and Ukrain may have actually started with “smaller” problems.

You are right, compared to the abominable destruction ands atrocities taking place in Ukraine and across that region of Europe, it makes you realize how you could have had much worse problems than the electricity issue.

I also apologize for the late response madam 🙌😄💘

      • Thanks for your reply 🙏 but the electricity issue is really annoying. This house used to be good and keep the heat inside without using up a lot of electricity but now … it’s impossible to set it to a reasonable temperature and consumption, I spend most of my waking hours keeping an eye on it. Maybe I’ll have to leave my house since it’s not working as it used to be. And maybe I’m a bit dramatic. But it’s not the same house I left when I went travelling.

      • You are welcome Helena 🙏😄.

I see what you mean 👍👍. If you think that going somewhere else temporarily would be better for now, then I think you should go with your gut feeling. I know that option may still present some inconveniences because of the fact that you were still trying to get work done, but your wellbeing comes first 💕👍🙂.

      • Oh, I know! It’s just that I have to sort out the electricity and some other things because if I’m faced with an huge electricity bill there’s not much money to use for travels. Have to get that webshop up and running and be a huge success 🏪 🏃‍♀️

  6. “Oh, I know! It’s just that I have to sort out the electricity and some other things because if I’m faced with an huge electricity bill there’s not much money to use for travels. Have to get that webshop up and running and be a huge success 🏪 🏃‍♀️”
    ————-

That is indeed the way to go 💕💯🤞. You may have to use alternative forms of lighting and battery powered substitutes wherever possible until you can get the electricity issue resolved. If you earn enough money from webshop when it goes up, you can probably use the earnings to help with the electricity bills, which I pray won’t be too bad.

Here’s to hoping that you shop will be a success aswell 🤞🤞☺️🥰

    • Yes. When I get the shop up and running which seems to be far away at the moment … but you’ll never know. It’s just that there’s so much to consider like plattforms, marketing etc. Not sure if I’ll stay on Shopify, maybe integrate the shop more with the blog. And then there’s the snow shovelling coming up too.

  7. You are right, it’s not something to rush into especially if it’s going to be an investment that helps you make a living. It’s cool to learn about your shop on Shopify — I had no idea lol. I only knew about the ones that you have listed on the top of your blog. Integrating the shop with your blog could make it alot easier to manage and more convenient, but it will be interesting to see what you finally decide.

Indeed, we can’t forget the snow shoveling — oh nooo 😃😅😄

    • I call the snow shovelling cross fit 😉 and it free and actually saves me money. And, the link to my web shop goes straight to my Shopify https://helenatheworld.com but I’ve only have a laptop sleeve, phone case and a back pack there for now. With my original print which came out beautifully 🙌

      • 🤣🤣 I know exactly what you mean — shoveling snow is quite the workout 💪💪😆. It’s probably beneficial too because staying fit and healthy may be another helpful factor during a long winter.

Thanks for sharing more details about your Shopify Webshop and I love what you did with the original print 👌🤟😘

      • Thanks 🙏 hopefully I’ll soon have time to make some more prints, or, I already have the prints, I just have to put them up on my shop. There are decisions to be made also. Maybe there’ll be time this Christmas between the snow shovelling and trying to sort out my electricity consumption to actually do some proper work 🤞

You are welcome dearest 🙏🌹🤗. Yes, your work doesn’t follow a typical schedule, you have a bit of flexibility and can use it to your advantage, so as someone who truly cares about you, I personally hope that your efforts and determination makes a promising development relative to the issues that you highlighted.

I am too cash-strapped to buy anything from overseas at the moment because of the inflated taxes on foreign purchases and import fees 👎😅. Despite that I am glad that you are adding more terrific things to your shop 😄💙💕

  9. That would be great and I hope so too my friend ✌️🤗

Whoa, 2 hours of shoveling snow is significant 👍👍. It sounds like there was enough snow to turn your residence into an enormous Igloo 😸

    • Not really, it wasn’t that much it’s just that I’ve got 400 square meters between my car in the garage, and the main road. There was snow on that needed removing from a roof too ❄️

      • Oh I see, you were busy sort of “defrosting” your driveway so that you won’t be trapped and to prevent things from getting too bad ❄🌨😄.

Removing snow from the roof is really critical because it can cause leaks and get heavier and heavier and potentially cause the roof collapse in severe cases 🙂✌️💯

      • Oh, been so busy shovelling these past days. But not as bad as it’s been in The US 🥶 also, it’s the snow on the roof to my porch which blocks the snow on the other roof … bit of technical problems with that roof that I’m trying to prevent.

      • 🎇🥳🎉🎊 Hello hun. I would love to wish you a merry Christmas and an exciting New Year ❄️🎁🎄🤟😆

  10. Lol don’t worry about the late reply, I still love it 😍😄. Thanks for wishing me a Happy New Year 🥳🤗

Interesting, you were doing more cross-fitness 💪😁😄. Yeah, certain parts of the US are unimaginable cold at this time 😱🥶❄🌨.

I understand what you’re trying to do with the roof situation; definitely go about it cautiously because the last thing you need is to have to put up with roof problems, the snow and ice issues are bad enough 😅😄

    • Yup, I had to cave in to using a tractor to get rid of the snow this holiday weekend. There was just too much snow and not enough time. Have you seen photos of the houses, in Maine or maybe even Canada, that are close to the sea and the waves froze as they hit the houses along the coast. Must have been scary but, the images are amazing it’s like ice sculptures of melting ice buildings 😉

      • Hahaha the snow stood no chance against the tractor 💨❄🚜😂. You may have caved but it’s was a great decision 😁💕💕

Yes, I have seen photos of the houses in Maine at Lake Erie — Ice sculptures is the perfect description 🤭🤣. I never saw houses that were iced in the manner and was in awe. It was cool and perplexing at the same time 👍😆. Thank goodness for the images because they capture the scene in a way that would be difficult to convey through word-of-mouth haha

    • Thank you! I’m happy that I’m able to see, and share, how I see the world. And of course, that somebody is stopping by my site and commenting 🙂
