Sagres

Yes, I’ve been in Portugal. That’s why I’ve been M.I.A. again. And, I’ve moved back up north so that has taken up a lot of my time as swell. But, I think I’ve said this before, I might be in one place physically but still, when looking at, and working on my photos I’m in all of those places at the same time. I can feel the smells, the salty air that blows in my face, the feeling of warm water against my body and everything else the moments the photos capture.

So, I don’t think I’ll write much more. I just put up some of my photos. With captions, that might be a bit long but also, descriptive. Oh, but wait. Since I’m back at my house I can finally edit my photos on a larger screen. They might not get better by it but I love seeing them on a big screen and that takes me back even better. I just edited these from Amed, East Bali.

Another very special thing with me visiting both Sagres and Amed is that they are considered to be very important and special places. In Balinese culture Amed is sometimes called The Axis of the Universe and Sagres is a place where the Gods were thought to meet, and I’ve been to both in a couple of months. Imagine that. Not that I planned my visits because of those facts, I just wanted to go snorkelling in Amed and to do some swimming in cold waters in Sagres. And, of course, since Sagres is one of the best surf spots in Portugal I wanted to take some surf photos. But you never know with surf photos … they’re dependent on waves and surfers. But I got lucky.

One of the last photos I took during the session. And it was basically only men out in the water but I managed to catch a female surfer under the lip of the wave in Praia do Tonel in Sagres, Portugal

And Sagres, like all of the places along the Portuguese coastline is also one of the most amazing and beautiful places I’ve visited. It’s hard big rocks just dropping into the sea, with nice sandy beaches close by.

Just waling around on those cliffs was the best feeling and there’s a fortress to visit too. Maybe the most fascinating thing on those cliffs are the fishermen. Of course there’s fishermen in this post too. It’s made by me so naturally I would include them. And, Sagres is an old fishing town so they have to be part of my post. They are standing so close to the edge on the high cliffs with long lines from their fishing rods down towards the water.

And since there are fish, there are also cats. And they are taken care of so well even if they are wild cats. Or, I mean, they are living outside and some of them are a bit cautious of humans, but most of them are very friendly and usually not hiding at all. The story I heard, was that the fishermen in the port were having trouble with mice eating their catch but then they discovered that there were cats catching and eating the mice so then, the cats were welcomed and taken good care of. Even to this day. And I love places with many cats, well, because I love cats.

So yes, I enjoyed my time in Sagres a lot. Stayed in a great apartment which I think most of the ones in Portugal are. The standard is amazing. But now, I’m back in my house in the north. The snow hasn’t started to fall yet but soon it will, and the lakes and rivers will freeze so you can ski and go snow scootering on them. And I really long for the snow, not the shovelling, but since the days are getting shorter the snow adds so much light.

And looking back on this post … I didn’t just put up my photos, it’s sort of a mini tourist guide to Sagres, from my viewpoint that is. Of course I’ve could have done a proper guide with hotels, restaurants and such but I think that’s something it’s easy and fun to discover by yourself while travelling and not have everything mapped out before you go.

    Hahaha sounds like paradise πŸ€πŸ€πŸ˜‚πŸ‘.

Those are some absolutely splendid photos; it’s hard for me to pick a favorite since they are all very cool LOL. Best of all, I am happy to hear about the wonderful time you had and to get a tease of that through your beautiful photography of Sagres πŸ™ŒπŸ˜†πŸ€©.

      • Absolutely, it sounds extremely enticing. I haven’t been to any of them yet but your blog helps alot in letting people such as myself know that some of them exists and what they are like πŸ‘πŸ™‚.

Hahaha yes!, the cats and the wildlife is one of the great things about these spots πŸ€ŸπŸ˜†πŸ˜†

      • Oh, I love the cast! And they’re not afraid and hiding in the bushes, some of them let you pet them because they’ve met nice people before. As I wrote on Instagram, “A place where us cats can roam wild and free!”.

  2. This photo: “Sunrise on Galugan morning in Amed, East Bali, Indonesia” takes me there. The clouds at the horizon line are creatures moving forward – just gorgeous ❀️

    • Thank you! If you have the possibility to go there you should! It’s an amazing place and I’m so happy I went there. And, I’m hoping to go back πŸ˜‰

YUP!, that is the kind of cast that makes the experience that much better hahaha. It is interesting to see the cordial relationship between the felines and the people in that area. And who know, maybe we may see this kind of interaction become generally wide spead among people and other kinds of animals.

And thanks for sharing your quote on Instagram; that is a place I rarely visit since I don’t have any dealings there what-so-ever 🀣🀣. But check out your Instagram more often lol.

    • Yes, you should definitely check out my Instagram since I like posting there, do it daily, and have been doing so since the plattform started and it was just squares. It’s good for photography, and I like telling my little daily stories there. The highlights on my page is like a diary of what I’ve been doing these last years. And, lots of cats I’ve met and the greatest cat of all, my own cat who is up in cat heaven now. But I’m spending time with his brother at the moment πŸ™‚

LOL now that is going waaay back πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚. I can’t even tell you what Instagram was like in the early days — it actually took me a while to realize that it actually existed lol. I would love to read your stories and many of the wonderful things you submit ☺️🌹. Awwww it’s great to hear about your own little furry friend πŸ˜‚βœŒοΈ. I hope he didn’t mind his brother getting all the attention πŸ‘πŸ˜†πŸ˜†

      • Well, when I started with insta I didn’t even realise I posted my photos from the app online. That’s how new it was πŸ˜‰ and my editing was awful, but I’ve improved! Well, living with cats is just very very nice 😻

Hahaha, wow, that sounds ancient; pretty interesting. Good thing for you, it didn’t turn into a meme 🀭. Unintentional stuff like that is how memes happen these days lol.

Yes so basically you are a “cat lady”, got it! πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜

  5. Fotos lindas! NΓ£o vi o botΓ£o de seguir aqui.
    Bem-vinda <3

    • Obrigada! Vou olhar para onde o botΓ£o seguir deve estar πŸ˜‰ hope Google translate got it right, the last sentence “Obrigada!” is a word I know and use a lot when in Portugal.

  6. Amazing surfing photos! Maybe you had a bit of luck with the perfect wave and a good surfer … but you also must be quite handy with the camera to take such great photos!

    • Thank you! Well as they say, you after you’ve taken 10000 photos you’re good at taking those kind of photos … and, I guess I’ve taken 10000 surf photos πŸ˜‰ But I was lucky too!
