Mambo’s Beach Market

Had fun last saturday, well I have fun most days, but did event photography at Mambo’s Beach Market here in Hikkaduwa. Oh how I love to photograph people and their feelings. And yes, I’ve moved again. I’m in Hikkaduwa in the Southern Province which has one of the best surf spots in the country and is something between a village and a small city. It was the first market for the season and I tried to capture the atmosphere there and emotions of the guests, organisers and staff, and the vendors. As I always try to do weather it’s a game, beach scene or something else because there’s always more going on than the actual event. Had lost of photos to edit when I got home but since I’m used to that from my sports photography I did it fast.

Here have a look at what was going on!

Very stylish guest at the market.

The market reminded me of a nicer version of all those huge markets that I’ve been to in Goa a lot of years ago. I hope that this tradition continues since it’s a nice way to get together with other people here in Sri Lanka. And there are small markets going on every weekend in the south. Yeah, I sort of miss those big Goan markets. Would be nice with a big one too.

And everybody contributes to the atmospere at the market, here’s the staff, organizers and performers. Love walking around sticking my camera into peoples faces trying to make them smile. Yes, I belive smiling makes you a bit happier and if somebody smiles at you, you smile back at them and your day gets a bit better. Speaking of smiling, here in Sri Lanka where people have been wearing masks for almost two years, many are really good at smiling with their eyes.

And of course, the guests are a big part of the market. It was a nice mixed crowd of people. Managed to take a surf photo too, not my technically best one but a sort of clever one.

    • Thanks πŸ™ had fun, most important. And, got to take photos of people. Did it again yesterday at another market, going to do something of them today πŸ˜‰

      • Awww you are welcome.

Hahaha yes I can tell that it was fun, the look on people’s faces doesn’t lie, and hopefully it was safe (which it seems to have been for the most part) since Covid is everywhere. This market event was a sight to see and I wish you the best with your other set of awesome pictures πŸ™ŒπŸ€©πŸ’™πŸ’™

      • Well, it was outdoors witch is good considering the pandemic. But at this stage, who knows … it’s like when I was living in India a long time ago, at the end you just gave in because it felt like you got Delhi belly from whatever, like breathing.

      • Hahaha I definitely see your point. Who knows indeed πŸ˜‚. But atleast you left there healthy and perhaps feeling better than ever and I am sure that you were being as cautious as you can πŸ€—πŸ€—.

But don’t let that take away from all of the other fun things that happened that day and how you were able to freeze them in time compliments your lovely photography πŸ‘πŸ‘ ☺️.
